Sankofa: A Journey to At Last

Sankofa: A Journey to At Last, a musical narrative that explores the life of African-Americans. In this work, listeners will experience choral spirituals, spiritually influenced music, covers of popular songs, and original pieces that call for action through empathy and inspiration. The emotional ambiance of each piece, combined with spoken word and dance, will uplift the hearts of those seeking a connection to the daily struggles faced by African Americans. Sankofa was showcased at the Atlas Performing Arts Center during the 2024 Intersections Festival. ASM aims to bring this vital work to Grace Episcopal Church to enhance the accessibility of Black Music and Black History, especially during a time when their erasure is increasingly evident.

A Concert of Remembrance

A Concert of Remembrance: is a double-bill presentation of The Mozart Requiem with orchestra and The Chariot Jubilee by R. Nathaniel Dett with a string quartet. This concert featuring the Chancel Choir of Grace Episcopal Church and The Sam Bonds Chorale will explore remembering the promise of salvation through these two sacred works. Mozart’s Requiem takes the listener on a musical journey that explores desiring eternal peace and salvation on the day that the trumpet shall sound. Dett’s Chariot Jubilee reflects the same sentiments of the Requiem by helping the listener see the opening of heaven on the last day as God’s promise of salvation is revealed through the text painting and musical layering of harmonies and melodic lines. The Dett will also feature dancers from Muse N Motion Dance Company.
