ASMITHMUSIC LESSONS
We provide lessons in the following areas:
Voice (Vocal Technique) - These lessons would be tailored to each individual's needs, to develop a free and open sound. We will focus on the fundamental building blocks of vocal technique, including respiration, posture, phonation, and resonance. We will use a variety of repertoire and exercises to assist in the development of vocal technique. This vocal technique is not genre-specific but is taught from a holistic perspective that has its foundations in classical technique.
Music Theory - These lessons will help develop an understanding of music notation, scales, keys, chords, and intervals as they relate to reading music. Music theory is the language of music, and a deeper understanding of it enables one to navigate sight-reading and score study more effectively, making music learning easier.
Aural Skills - These lessons are designed to strengthen your musical ear. By listening and becoming more familiar with intervals, chords, chord progressions, harmonies, and different types of dictation, your musical ear will be able to listen to pieces and understand the form. Not only will your ear grow, but the expectation will be to sing in these lessons. A part of aural skills requires your voice to lock into the movements and feel the distance between notes, as well as the pulse of the rhythms, using your voice. Sight-reading drills will be a part of the lesson structure along with some dictation.
Vocal Coaching - These lessons are designed to help singers identify and refine the emotional and performative aspects of their songs, enhancing them for auditions and upcoming performances. This will include attention to diction, vowel placement, breath management, dynamic contrasts, and meaning of the piece, regardless of language. Technique will not be discussed in these lessons unless asked, as the primary purpose of these lessons is to work on repertoire.
Beginning Piano - These lessons would introduce individual notes, scales, chords, and rhythms by using the piano as the primary instrument. Being able to play scales and basic harmonic progressions through different keys with clear rhythm and precise fingerings will assist in building overall musicianship. Throughout these lessons, sight-reading notes on clefs will be necessary; therefore, it is recommended to have a background in music theory or to take music theory lessons with piano lessons.
